UNIFORM POLICY

The following
rules have to be adhered to at all times.  As the policy will be signed
by both parents and learners of Grenville High School, no exception to
the rule will be accepted.  Any transgressions will be dealt with
according to the school’s existing disciplinary system.

1.             FORMAL DRESS CODE:

1.1          GIRLS:

  1. School skirts must be properly hemmed and not tapered (10cm maximum above the knee when kneeling) or
  2. School pants (hemmed appropriately and not tapered)
  3. Long-sleeved button down shirts – tucked in
  4. Short-sleeved button down shirts – tucked in
  5. One of the afore-mentioned school ties (whichever applicable)
  6. Jersey/Pull-over/Blazer
  7. Long school socks or brown tights
  8. Prescribed brown school shoes with laces tied
  9. Baby doll shoes

 

1.2          BOYS:

  1. Standard school long pants with a BROWN belt
  2. Long-sleeved button-down shirt, tucked in
  3. One of the abovementioned school ties (whichever is applicable)
  4. Jersey/Pull-over/Blazer
  5. Brown school socks
  6. Prescribed brown school shoes with laces tied

 

2.             INFORMAL DRESS CODE:

2.1          GIRLS:

  1. School skirts to be correctly hemmed and not tapered (10cm maximum above the knee when kneeling) or
  2. School pants (correctly hemmed and not tapered)
  3. Short-sleeved embroidered shirts NOT tucked in
  4. NO ties or scarves
  5. Jersey/pullover/tracksuit top
  6. Short brown school socks
  7. Prescribed brown school shoes with tied laces
  8. Baby doll shoes

 

INFORMAL DRESS CODE:

2.2          BOYS:

  1. Standard school pants, longs or shorts and a BROWN BELT
  2. Short-sleeved embroidered shirts – NOT tucked in
  3. NO ties or scarves
  4. Jersey/Pullover/Tracksuit top
  5. Prescribed brown school shoes with tied laces

 

3.             SPORT UNIFORM POLICY FOR LIFE ORIENTATION PRACTICAL PERIODS

BOYS AND GIRLS:

 3.1          MAY WEAR:

  1. Grenville High School tracksuits, in full.  Tracksuit pants are to be correctly shortened andb neatly hemmed.
  2. Yellow golf shirts ONLY.
  3. Green embroidered Grenville shorts instead of tracksuit pants during the summer season.
  4. A pair of black or white cross-trainers (a proper sport shoe) with matching laces correctly
  5. tied.
  6. Short brown school socks OR
  7. Plain white or black secret socks.

 

3.2          IMPORTANT 

  1. NO “All-star” or any such like shoes are allowed whether plain or ankle height.
  2. NO sneakers or pumps allowed.
  3. NO coloured shoe-laces allowed.
  4. NO scarves allowed.
  5. NO jerseys to be worn with tracksuit pants.
  6. Tracksuits may not be ironed with holes.

 

4.             HAIR:

4.1          HAIRSTYLES IN GENERAL:

  1. Hair must be clean, neatly and appropriately styled.
  2. Hair may not be dyed, permed or high-lighted.
  3. Elaborate or teased hairstyles are not permitted.  This includes braids/weaves.
  4. Dreadlocks may not be worn.

 

4.2          BOYS:

  1. Boys must be clean shaven.  No hair growth to be visible on upper lip.
  2. Side-burns may not extend beyond the top of the small lobe of the ear.
  3. Hair must be evenly tapered, cut above the ears and should be short enough so as to not touch ears or collars.
  4. A small amount of gel may be used when hair is short.
  5. No braids or tufts of hair permitted.
  6. No Mohawk hairstyles and/or steps may be visible.

 

4.3          GIRLS: SENIORS: GRADES 10 – 12

  1. If hair is of such a length that it reaches the bottom of the collar, it must be neatly tied up.
  2. Fringes which extend below the eyebrows must be clipped away.
  3. A small amount of gel may be used if hair is short.
  4. Long hair may not be combed into a style with gel or sugar water etc.
  5. Hair may be braided but only straight braided hair is allowed.

PERMISSION
WILL POSSIBLY BE GRANTED TO INDIVIDUAL GIRLS WHO WISH TO WEAR EXTENSIONS
OF THE SAME COLOUR AS THEIR NATURAL HAIR.  MS BESTER MUST BE CONSULTED
PERSONALLY, PRIOR TO SUCH ACTION. THE SCHOOL RESERVES THE RIGHT TO
REVOKE THIS PRIVILEGE.

BRAIDS MAY
NOT BE THICKER THAN 3MM EACH.  IF TIED UP IN A PONYTAIL, THE BRAIDS MUST
BE TIED TOGETHER AND MUST NOT BE EITHER TOO THICK OR TOO LONG.

A UNIFORM HAIRSTYLE FOR THE WHOLE HEAD I.E. NOT PLAITED ON THE ONE SIDE AND NORMAL ON THE OTHER SIDE.

 

4.4          GIRLS:  JUNIOR:  GRADES 8 AND 9

NO BRAIDS, HAIR-PIECES, WEAVES AND WIGS MAY BE WORN.  ONLY TRADITIONALLY PLAITED HAIR IS ALLOWED I.E. PLAITED HAIR ON HAIR. 

NO FLOWERS, NO STUDDED/BEADED CLIPS AND NO HAIR BANDS MAY BE WORN.

 

4.5          ACCESSORIES:

Ribbons, combs, scrunchies or clips of a colour matching the school’s colours i.e. olive green, beige or brown may be worn.

Only one item of yellow is allowed.

No animal-print head-bands or scarves.

 

5.             NAILS:

  1. Boys’ nails must be kept clean and must not protrude at all.
  2. Girls’ nails may not protrude more than 1mm beyond fingertips.
  3. Girls may wear clear nail varnish.
  4. NO GEL OR ACRYLIC NAILS ARE ALLOWED.

 

6.             JEWELLERY:

  1. Boys may not wear earrings or any other rings.
  2. Girls may wear one pair of earrings only – ONE
    in each ear.  If more than one hole has been pierced in the ears then
    the earrings must be worn in the bottom hole only.  No earrings may we
    worn in the “upper part” of the ear.
  3. Only small gold or silver studs/sleepers may be worn.
  4. THE DIAMETER OF A STUD MAY NOT EXCEED 4MM.
  5. Girls only, may wear one signet ring.  No other rings are allowed.
  6. No bracelets, other than a medical alert bracelet, may be worn.  No other arm bands are permitted.
  7. If chains are worn under a school shirt and are visible they will be confiscated immediately.
  8. No jewellery may be worn when participating in sport.
  9. No religious adornments e.g. rosary etc. permitted.

ALL INCORRECT JEWELLERY WILL BE CONFISCATED.

 

7.             TATTOOS:

TATTOOS ARE NOT PERMITTED. 

EXISTING TATTOOS MUST BE COVERED BY WEARING THE FORMAL SCHOOL UNIFORM. 

IF A TATTOO IS VISIBLE, IT WILL HAVE TO BE REMOVED.

 

8.             SCHOOL CASES AND SCHOOL BOOKS:

  1. SCHOOL CASES MUST PROVIDE ADEQUATE SUPPORT AND PROTECTION FOR BOOKS AND THEY MUST ALSO BE A SUITABLE SIZE. 
  2. HAVERSACKS (KARRIMOR BACK PACKS) MAY BE USED (WITH SUPPORT). 
  3. SLOGANS, STICKERS OR DRAWINGS MAY NOT BE USED TO DECORATE SCHOOL CASES. 
  4. LEARNERS’ NAMES MUST APPEAR ON SCHOOL CASES. 
  5. Learners must line up with their school cases for assembly in the morning.
  6. School books
    must be covered in plastic.  Learners who lose or damage textbooks or
    library books will be held responsible for the cost of replacing these
    books at current prices.
  7. Learners are responsible for the safe-keeping of their school cases and the contents thereof.

 

Learners are
thus advised not leave their school cases unattended in classrooms,
corridors and/or on the playground.  School cases will be kept in
classrooms which may be locked during breaks.
